This year Chronic Pain Australia invested time into a dynamic project called a "Hack-a-thon", during 20 to 22 May 2016. For those of you who are saying "whaaat?", that was our reaction at first. What is a hackathon?

Hackathon - definition by Wikipedia

A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is an event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development and hardware development, including graphic designers, interface designers and project managers, collaborate intensively on software projects.[1] Occasionally, there is a hardware component as well. Hackathons typically last between a day and a week. Some hackathons are intended simply for educational or social purposes, although in many cases the goal is to create usable software. Hackathons tend to have a specific focus, which can include the programming language used, the operating system, an application, an API, or the subject and the demographic group of the programmers. In other cases, there is no restriction on the type of software being created.

Our consultant was Ms Anne-Marie Elias (@chiefDisrupter) with her handy right hand man Mr Thai Huynh together with Dr Coralie Wales, President CPA, a new project was born. #Hack4pain.  This amazing event brought together, developers, hackers, designers, mentors, CPA members, and anyone else interested in joining in. A collaboration between digital technology professionals and people living with the effects of chronic pain.

A broad look at the specs included that the app be user friendly, connect people with pain together, the ability to record their pain journey and share it.  During the weedend, teams formed, alliances were forged and the beginning of an app was born. Unfortunately there could only be one winner but the amazing work that came out of all teams was increadible. The energy in the Fishburners basement that weekend was filled with, the desire to acomplish a goal,  love and community spirit. A great result and a fantastic experience for those of us who would otherwise, never be involved in this kind of project.
